  • Erection After Robotic Prostatectomy

I recently underwent a robotic prostatectomy and have been facing challenges with achieving an erection since the surgery. I understand that this can be a common issue due to nerve damage or disruption during the procedure. I’m seeking advice or shared experiences on managing post-surgical erectile dysfunction. What options are available that might help in regaining sexual function? Any personal experiences or recommendatoins on treatments like medications, devices, or therapies would be greatly appreciated.

I understand what you’re going through as I had a similar experience following my prostate surgery. It’s indeed challenging, but there are several options you might consider to aid recovery and improve erectile function.

Firstly, it’s crucial to give your body time to heal and nerves time to recover, which can vary significantly between individuals. In many cases, doctors recommend using oral medications like sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), or vardenafil (Levitra) which aid increase blood flow to the penis and are often effective in treating erectile dysfunction post-surgery.

If medications aren’t suitable or if they don’t provide the desired results, other therapies like vacuum erection devices (VEDs) can be beneficial. They work by drawing blood into the penis and holding it there with a constriction ring. I’ve tried this method and found it quite helpful during my recovery phase.

Penile injections are another option where medication is injected directly into the side of the penis before intercourse. Although it sounds daunting, many men find this method effective when oral medications do not work.

Lastly, penile implants are considered when other treatments fail or are unsuitable due to medical reasons. This was something I considered after trying other treatments, but fortunately, less invasive methods started showing effects over time.

It’s also beneficial to consult with a healthcare provider who specializes in sexual health or a urologist familiar with post-prostatectomy care. They could provide guidance tailored to your specific health needs.

Remember that recovery from such surgery varies per person; maintaining open communication with your partner about your feelings and progress can also be very supportive emotionally.
